Grateful & Thankful

What It's All About For Me

There are a lot of reasons why makeup artists and hairstylists do what they do. We are artsy. We love fashion. We want to stay up-to-date with trends and style. We love to help people. But I think the best piece of being a freelance artist is the opportunity you get to be a part of someone’s journey.

With Thanksgiving around the corner, we can’t help but feel very thankful to have the clients that we do! Thankful that they have let us into their lives and allowed us to be a part of all of their momentous occasions. Thankful that they entrust us with all of their beauty needs on their special occasions. We wouldn’t have it any other way!

We recently got to do the hair & makeup of one of our regulars for a maternity shoot. Mid-glam and I realized that I also got to do this beauty’s wedding. I had to take a moment. What an honor it was to be a part of this blushing bride’s beautiful day, and now here I am… a few years later, doing her makeup for her maternity shoot! She glowed! That is when I realized that THAT was what it was all about for me. Being able to be an important piece of the puzzle and support those that have trusted me was why I did what I did everyday.

This is more than just a job for me. This is my life. I choose to help YOU make your special moment perfect by helping you feel and look beautiful. I take the time to get to know you and listen to your ideas of style. We plan together, I give advice and in the end, I am there for you to help you look and feel the best you can!

The professionals at Amped Artistry, strive to make you look and feel your best always. I think too often we assume that hairstylists or makeup artists are interchangeable (or even disposable). I’m here to tell you, that we aren’t. Everyone’s training, attitude and experience is different. You want to make sure that if you connect with someone artistically, you should consider keeping them around for future events. Sometimes we are more than just artist's, we become a part of the family!

I have to admit something to you all… I love drugstore makeup. I know, I know. How? Why? But I assure you that I’ve found my fair share of star products browsing the bright aisles at Walgreens. In my experience, I have purchased high-end, cosmetic counter makeup and HATED it. In that same vein, I have purchased really inexpensive makeup at the drugstore and it was total crap. So the moral of the story is “You gotta try it.” The truth is that everyone is different and products look and wear differently on everyone.

But, what about the argument of how things are made?

Good point! I have a question for YOU. Would you believe me if I told you that Georgio Armani and YSL are owned by the same company that owns NYX Cosmetics and Maybelline? It’s true! All the companies listed above are L’oreal brands and even though they are different entities, you can totally find similar products and colors between the brands. So wether you have a champagne budget or not, you can find some killer products at the drugstore.

You don’t have to believe us! In an article posted on InStyle.com , author Erin Lukas shares 6 gold star drugstore finds in “6 Beauty Products Under $12 You Should Buy from the Drugstore.” Check these products out and let us know what your thoughts are! Agree or disagree? Tell us why on Facebook.

InStyle beauty director, Angelique Serrano hits up her local CVS to share the best of the best in drugstore brands. Below are her professional tips and suggestions!

Foundation
Serrano swears by L’oreal's True Match foundation. She states, “[this is] one of the best you can find… with over 30 shades to pick from.” And it’s only $11. L’oreal claims:

“The formula is super-hydrating and provides medium coverage and with a natural finish that’s so blendable it’s like you can’t tell where your foundation ends and your skin begins. True Match goes beyond matching skin tone, to matching skin’s undertone; light to dark and warm, neutral and cool undertones for a true-to-skin result. Formulated with Pro-Vitamin B5 and Vitamin E, Titanium Dioxide Broad Spectrum SPF 17, True Match Liquid Foundation helps to keep skin looking radiant and healthy. It’s free of oils, fragrances and won’t clog pores.”

Lashes - Lashes are a girls best friend!

Ardell Individual Lashes - These lashes are great and very easy to use. The individual placement allows for a softer and more natural look.

Ardell Magnetized Lashes - This is the latest in lash technology. A double strand magnetized strip is a glue free lash that sandwiches your natural lashes for a more dramatic look. Allergic or sensitive to lash adhesive? Check these bad boys out!

    NYX Velvet Matte lipstick

I don’t know about you but I love NYX. They are extremely affordable, and have a great color selection. These long wearing lippies are perfect for this time of year.

    Katy Kat Gloss from Covergirl

Great color selection and even cuter packaging! We can’t get enough. And at only $6 a tube, we can really splurge on this find.

Covergirl states, “Katy Kat Gloss is a shiny lip gloss created by COVERGIRL Katy Perry. Delivering thick and luxurious lips that are perfect for any occasion, Katy Kat Gloss gives you the shiny lips that you've been looking for with a soft and creamy, moisturized feel.”…oooohhhhhhh. And Covergirl took the leap and is now CRUELTY FREE!! No better reason to support this brand! Who’s coming with me??

In this second installment of the 2018 Holiday gift giving guide, we asked the amazing Giselle what her all-time, favorite products were. We wanted to know what she could not live without personally and professionally, and Giselle did not disappoint. Check out what her answers were to our very nosey questions. (Hahaha!)

    Here’s what we asked Giselle…

    Q: What is your go-to skincare routine/regimen?

I love doing a double cleanse starting with a cleansing oil and following up with a detox cleanser. I currently use Julep’s double cleanse boost. It’s Korean skincare packed with a lot of good for you ingredients and free of harsh chemicals and bad ingredients. https://www.julep.com/korean-skincare/why-double-cleanse   after I double cleanse I like using knockout from Tarte as a toner and prep my face for moisturizer (Julep’s boost your radiance or what your skin needs facial milk depending on how thirsty my skin is) on certain days when I need something a little more aggressive or get a breakout I turn to my tube of .5 retinol from skin scueticles.

Q: What is  your favorite, can’t live without, Hair tool?

My con air styling wand ! It was only $10 when I bought it years ago and i always get people stopping me asking me what I use to style my hair! It’s the 1/2 inch to 1 inch wand

Q: What is your all-time favorite hair product line?

    Overtone

    https://overtone.co/pages/about-us

They have the best color depositing hair masks that I’ve tried! There’s so many color options and color recipes! It’s great for anyone with fun colorful hair and they color masks are hydrating leaving your hair soft.

    Q: Favorite hair product?

Color wow pop and lock hair gloss shellac. Only thing that makes my thick dry dull hair silky and shiny for that glass hair look.

Q: What is your go-to makeup line?

Ugh I don’t have just one favorite but if I had to pick right now I’m really feeling Julep Beauty. Im not only obsessed with their Korean skincare but her makeup line over all has impressed my picky standards. I love that her products are effortless and easy to use and they are made with good for you ingredients and have amazing performance.

Q: What is your ‘signature’ lip color?

It’s actually not a lipstick. Its the Dior lip glow in shade pink. Love wearing this on the daily! It makes my lips so soft and smooth. I even sometimes wear it under my liquid matte lipsticks to keep my lips soft and hydrated or pair it with a lip liner and gloss on top for a natural everyday look.

Q: If you were stranded on a desert island, what 3 things would you want to have with you?

Moisturizer for my face/body mascara and my lip gloss or lip balm.

Q: What do you do for self-care that you think everyone should consider?

10-15 minSalt bath to help your body decompress your daily stress.

Q: What advice do you like to give your clients about taking care of themselves?

Start taking care of your skin as early as possible! It’s more expensive to correct then it is to maintain healthy skin.

Q: What is the best advice you’ve ever received?

    Stay out of the sun!

Q: What is your favorite quote?

“A girl should be two things: classy & fabulous.” - Coco Chanel

With so much to be grateful for, we decided that it would be a helpful idea to show you what one of our favorite people is most grateful for! We asked Christine “CeeCee” Diaz what things she could NOT live without and she dished. Her responses were too good not to share for lots of reasons. Not only do we NEED these things but they also make great gifts for our loved ones. And with Christmas right around the corner, this list couldn’t have come at a better time!

    Here’s what we asked CeeCee…

    Q: What is your go-to skincare routine/regimen?

    Obagi

Q: What is  your favorite, can’t live without, Hair tool?

I can’t live without my Dyson Har dryer!

Q: What is your all-time favorite hair product line?

Amika and Oribe. Pureology shampoo and conditioner are my everyday essentials.

    Q: Favorite hair product?

Spray and Play by Big Sexy Hair

Q: What is your go-to makeup line?

    MAC Cosmetics and Morphe

Q: What is your ‘signature’ lip color?

    Boy Bait by MAC Cosmetics

OMG! I can’t live without my Paul Mitchell Curling Wand, Dyson Hair dryer and my MAC Cosmetics Boy Bait Creemsheen Lipglass.

Q: What do you do for self-care that you think everyone should consider?

    Obagi Salicylic Acid Wipes.

Q: What advice do you like to give your clients about taking care of themselves?

Drink lots of water, and wash your face every night!

Q: What is the best advice you’ve ever received?

When focusing on a goal, think of it as a long highway and at the end is the horizon! If you focus on the horizon and not the obstacles in the road, the way to the horizon will be more enjoyable and pleasant!

Q: What is your favorite quote?

“Sometimes in life we become so focused on the finish line that we fail to find joy in the journey."

Albert Einstein said, “Once you stop learning, you start dying." I think we can all agree that we can never stop learning. Every day is an opportunity to learn something new that helps us grow as people. Learning helps us feel confident and forces us to mature. Can I get a YASSSSS?!?

The message is clear; When we stop learning, we stop growing. This quote made me think about growth in every facet of life and how important it is to pursue. Not only professionally, but it's  just as important to pursue personally. From makeup and hair, to style, to improving your communication skills— it’s all important! You are important.

This leads me to my next question, Have you ever had a makeup lesson?

And I don’t mean the late night Youtube University step-by-step videos. I’m talking about a REAL makeup lesson with a REAL makeup artist who is professionally trained and accredited. What’s the difference, you ask? Well, youtube videos are great! They can offer a lot of insight and provide some really credible information. However, those lessons are meant to teach you how to look like the person you are watching. But how about learning to work with your features? That’s the million dollar question and that’s where a lesson would benefit most.

Amped Artistry is proud to announce that we do private, one-on-one lessons to help you reach the next level. Through makeup lessons, we are able to refine our skills and polish our style without compromising who we really are. It also allows you to stay current and up to date with the trends. Most of us don’t have the same hairstyle we did 2 years ago so why should we have the same makeup style??

    How does it work?

Lessons are private and by appointment only. Call or send us an email and we will happily reserve your spot today.

Do I go to the salon?

We come to you! Private lessons are the most beneficial because we show you how to work with what you have! Your instructor will start the lesson by asking what your current routine is. They will also look through your products and let you know what still works, what is expired and even teach you how to properly clean your brushes!

    How long is the lesson?

Lessons typically take about an hour and a half, so please schedule accordingly. Need more time?? No worries, extra time is possible for a small fee.

What is included in the lesson?

The lesson is broken down into 3 parts. The first part is used to review what your current routine is, what expectations you have from the lesson and to review the products you own/use most frequently. The second part is a lesson on natural, everyday makeup. The artist will give you tips and tricks while providing a hands on experience in daytime friendly makeup. The last part is left for evening and/or glamour. Your instructor will show you how to build on what you’ve already created and even teach you how to apply false lashes.

At the end of your appointment, your instructor will review all of the steps and leave you with a personalized how-to guide to follow.

Don’t want to deal with the opinions of a department store advisor? No problem. You can schedule a private shopping session with your Instructor. They will help guide you as you make your way through the (sometimes intimidating) cosmetic department making sure that you get the attention that you deserve. Private shopping sessions are by appointment only and are billed on an hourly basis. Let’s go shopping!!!

So there’s a Maid of honor and a Junior Bride. And then there’s a Bridesmaid AND a Matron of Honor? But wait…aren’t they all the same thing?!

The short answer is No, they aren’t the same thing. Each of the traditional roles has a different job and responsibility. I know that wedding planning is often overwhelming, but delegation can help. What better people to delegate your wedding woes to than your wedding party? Amped Artistry did the research so you don’t have to. We’ve partnered up with theknot.com to provide you with all the information you need.

Maid of Honor/ Matron of Honor

She is the Bride’s right hand, confidant, and personal assistant. This is probably the most important of all the roles (no pressure) and should be given to someone who is up for the challenge. Traditionally, the maid of honor is in charge of wedding day toasts, signing of the marriage license, bridal shower planning and execution and often the bachelorette party.

    Best Man

The Best Man is the grooms personal assistant. Their traditional responsibilities include wedding day toasts, signing of the marriage license, planning of the bachelor party and keeper of the rings during the ceremony. It is also noted that the Best Man is in charge of keeping the dance party going so make sure whoever you put in this role is up for the task.

    Bridesmaids

This role is usually reserved for the best of the best pals and family of the Bride. The squad is responsible for general support and pretty much takes care of anything the Maid of Honor delegates. Bridesmaids usually chip in for the bachelorette party and also participate in all wedding festivities including the shower. They help address invites, make party favors and also are responsible to keep guests dancing on the day of the wedding.

    Groomsmen

This is the Grooms posse and is responsible for similar things as the Bridesmaids. Groomsmen share the expense for the bachelor party and often split the cost of the Groom’s tux/suit. Not only do they supply support for anything the Groom and Best Man need, but can also double as ushers on your wedding day.

    Junior Bridesmaids

This role is reserved for the younger members of the wedding party. Junior Bride’s share in all the wedding fun minus the bachelorette party, obviously. The traditional age range for this role is 9 to 16.

    Flower Girl/ Ring Bearer

I think we all know that these roles are reserved for the littlest and cutest members of your wedding party. Try and stay between the ages of 4 and 8 since it can be difficult to coax the really little one’s to do what you need them to do all of the time.

But traditional wedding roles are just that, traditional. It’s important that you build your wedding party based on your needs as a bride. Each wedding is like a snowflake; Individual and beautifully independent from one another. The important thing is that you are happy. There are no rules, just guidelines.

Did you do something creative with your wedding party and want to share? We’d love to hear from you! Send us a message or post on our Facebook wall. Let’s keep the conversation going!

#Selfcare. We’ve all seen the hashtag but few of us really understand what that means. And in a world filled with chaos, endless drama and lots of crap to deal with - self care is more important than ever!

According to Oxford Living Dictionary, self care is defined as, “The practice of taking action to preserve or improve one's own health” and “The practice of taking an active role in protecting one's own well-being and happiness, in particular during periods of stress.”

    So what does that mean?

Everyone is under stress, all of the time. Or, at least that’s how it feels, right? With stress, comes bad habits. I’m not saying that all habits cultivated under moments of stress are bad, but most are. A good example of a bad habit is stress or emotional eating. In moments of high stress, some tend to hyper focus on their eating habits. It’s a form of control when you feel like you have none.  Some will over eat and some will under eat. These changes in habit directly affect our health. Not only can we gain/lose weight in an unhealthy way, but we screw with the job our body is trying to do.

I know I’m not telling you anything new, Stress is bad. Too much stress makes us sick, makes us break out, makes us depressed, speeds up the aging process and the list can go on for 10 pages. Self care, although not a fix-all, helps you bring the focus back to you. It appeals to both the physical and emotional sides of who you are.

Why Am I telling you this?

Because somewhere along the journey, the stress of life (kids, work, friends, partner, responsibilities) took precedence over how we look after ourselves. And truth be told, we are the most important piece of the puzzle. If we aren’t feeling 100%, how can we expect to give a 100%…in anything?

How do we put this into practice?

In the 1940’s, women would stay home just to do their hair. I’m serious! It’s not an old wives tale. Women would schedule the days in which they had to stay home to wash and style their hair. And this happened all of the time! The magic word is effort. First you have to make the effort to take better care of yourself. Your happiness depends on it.

When did things change and why is everything we do for ourselves so rushed?

Society and time have put an enormous amount of pressure on us to “keep up.” But who are we keeping up for? It’s definitely not for us! For the sake of not wanting to sound too preachy, self care is important. It’s always been important. Why? Because YOU are important.

Still not sure on what self care is or how to get started?

DO YOUR RESEARCH. Self care looks differently for everyone. It’s important to get a good understanding of it so you can figure out what that looks like for you. My advice is to focus on the habits that make you feel better about you long term. Leave the short term satisfaction for the amateurs. You want something to last and something to hold on to. And what better thing to hold on to, but you?

In an article posted by verywellmind.com titled “The Importance of Self-Care for Health and Stress Management” the author outlines popular self help strategies and ideas on how to better take care of yourself. Read below for more information.

    • Take a Bath : Get out the bubbles, oils, and scented soaps, and soak until you’re wrinkled.
    • Deep-Condition Your Hair: While you’re in the tub, put on a deep-conditioning treatment for your hair, and let it work as you relax.
    • Deep-Clean Your Pores: With a nice clay masque, you can draw impurities out of your skin and stress out of your system.
    • Care For Your Feet: After you soak your feet to soften calloused skin, use a pumice stone to slough off dead skin, and finish with a rich foot cream, and perhaps polish.
    • Nourish Your Skin: Rich, luxurious creams smell wonderful and feel smooth, especially if you exfoliate your skin in the tub before putting them on.
    • Tend to Your Nails: Correct the beating your nails probably take from your busy life (especially for those of you who bite your nails!) by filing and buffing. A coat of polish on can make you feel like a princess for days afterward. (This is probably more for my female readers.)
    • Get a Massage: This one can be especially nice. If your budget doesn’t allow for regular massages with a professional, see if you can trade with a friend or your spouse, or use an electronic massager.

“In addition to pampering yourself, more substantial forms of self-care involving healthy lifestyle choices are important, too. Consuming a healthy diet , getting regular exercise , and being sure you get enough sleep are all important for long-term health and stress management as well.”

So, does anyone really know how much is too much when it comes to exfoliating your face? Or even if exfoliating is necessary? HALT!! Stop right there. Wether you are oily or dry, exfoliating your skin is a must! But why???

    What is exfoliation?

According to an article posted by Women’s Health Online, “Exfoliation is a skin-care technique where you remove dead cells from the top layer of your skin. By removing this layer of clutter off of your skin, exfoliation helps brighten your complexion, and lets your skin-care products penetrate deeper into your skin (making them work better).” Exfoliation is an important part of your skincare routine, especially in the beginning stages of aging as it helps remove fine lines and prevents your skin from looking dull.

    Ok, I’m listening.

    How often should you exfoliate?

So the goal is to NOT make your face feel scaly, irritated and red, or sore. The goal of exfoliation is to help your skin feel soft and healthy. So for all of my over-scrubbers, PUT THE CLARISONIC DOWN! You may be doing more harm than good over there. We did the research, so you don’t have to. Read below and find out what the pro’s are saying about how often you should be scrubbing.

    • For sensitive skin: You should be extra gentle and exfoliate with a warm, wet washcloth or a mild chemical exfoliant with lower active ingredient percentages once or twice a week, max . Scrubs with beady parts usually just irritate this skin type and should be skipped.
    • For oily skin: Your skin has a higher tolerance for the heavy-duty stuff, says Shah, and you can exfoliate up to five times a week. Try a cleansing tool like Clarisonic by morning, and an exfoliating peel or serum by night.
    • For normal to combination skin: You can use either of these methods with optimal results up to three times a week .

Are there different ways to exfoliate?

Yes, there are two different ways. Mechanical and Chemical.

Mechanical exfoliation is when you use a tool to exfoliate like a Clarisonic or a wash cloth. Anything that helps you to physically remove dead skin cells from the surface of your skin. Chemical exfoliation is when you introduce anything with an alpha-beta hydroxy that dissolves skin cells. So remember, mechanical exfoliation physically removes the dead cells from the surface while chemical exfoliations dissolve them.

    Favorite Exfoliants

The Clarisonic is a classic and a staple when it comes to mechanical exfoliation. But they aren’t the only ones with a handheld cleaning brush. So do your research and pick the best one for your skin type and budget. A girl’s gotta live!

Kiehl’s Clearly Corrective Brightening & Exfoliating Daily Cleanser is another great option for exfoliation. It’s mild enough to use everyday and is great for all skin types. Check it out and let us know what you think? We’d love to hear from you!

Fall is finally here!! And even though some of us may not be feeling the change in the air, we are definitely seeing the change in fashion and style. I don’t know about you, but Fall fashion is my favorite and always one to keep an eye out for. It’s the time of year when one can wear warmer clothing and still be cute and stylish. Put away those midriffs peeps… it’s time for cooler weather. And everybody knows, when the seasons change it’s not only about fashion. It’s all about the MAKEUP too!!

According to the pros at instyle.com , there are 7 Fall Makeup Trends that are captivating the industry this season. The great thing is that this year’s Fall trend goes far beyond the staple red lipstick and signature smokey eye. There is more…so so much more!

    Pink Eyeshadow

Yes…you read that right! Pink Eyeshadow is making a powerful comeback. A special thanks to designers Anna Sui and Jeremy Scott, who featured this lovely look on the runway this last season. Makeup Artist tip: Nervous about the pink? Don’t be! This look is all about balance. Keep your palette monochromatic for a fresh and flirty take on a classic look. Find a lipstick to match your shadow and the look will be complete.

    Ruby Red Lipstick

Red lips are a staple! A classic among classics, for sure. A good red lipstick is like finding the perfect bra. It something everyone needs and it fits everyone differently. It can be a pain in the butt to find, but when you do — it will be with you forever. Makeup Artist Tip: Ask for advice and try on different shades. It is just as important to feel good in your red as it is for it to look good.

    Eyeliner and Appliqués

Gems, appliques and adornments galore! We are already seeing celebrities like Kim K putting this trend into play with various stick on embellishments. Need inspiration? Check out Lupita Nyong’s latest red carpet look! Her makeup artist accentuated her liner with royal blue and black gems, leaving her looking as elegant as ever.

    Glossy Lips

There are so many people out there that will be very excited about this one. The nude lip is back baby! And it is stronger than ever. Juicy, light, natural and nude are the only words that come to mid when thinking of this trend. Can anyone say, “Pass the MAC Clear lipglass, please?”

    Smoky Eyes

Shocker. But equally as exciting. I’m sure we all know what a smoky eye is, right? Makeup Artist tip: Try using a jewel toned blue or purple to rock out this look. Smoky is the technique used to apply the shadow, so don’t get locked into the dark grey or black pigment.

    Hints of Gold

Nothing says Fall more like shades of gold and bronze. And this season, we are seeing it all over the face. We are in love with gold highlights, gold shadows and gold lipgloss! Disclaimer: Don’t add all the gold all over, at once. Pick a feature and make that one stand out. It’s all about the balance babes. No need to look like a disco ball just yet.

    Bright Eyeshadow

Even though Summer has ended, it doesn’t mean that we have to give up all of the color. This season, we are living for staple colors like Blue and Yellow. Fashion designers like Naeem Khan made it their mission to incorporate brighter, happier eyeshadows during their shows and we are living for every minute of it!!!

We hope that this has inspired you to add a few pieces to your makeup wardrobe. Have questions or comments? Lets keep the conversation going! Send us a message on facebook. We’d love to hear from you!

With technology constantly updating, we are noticing that the science of laser technology has been perfected within recent years. And as time goes on, it seems like we are able to do more and more with a laser than ever before!

    OH THE POSSIBILITIES!!

There are 4 types of laser technologies. Laser, Ultrasound Therapy, Light Device and Infrared. Each laser is different and is meant to stimulate a different response. Always do your own research before going in for a consult.

Laser treatments can address several skin and aging concerns. Some of which include hyper pigmentation, stretch marks, acne scars, rosacea, stimulate collagen production, tattoo removal and even aide in excess fat cell removal.

HOW DO I KNOW IF LASER TREATMENTS ARE FOR ME?

I know that there is a lot of information to consider. Where do I go? How often? What laser? What do I get done? What is this going to cost? Am I going to need down time? It’s so overwhelming! But we’re here to help. And our advice to you is to take it slow and steady. First, you want to make sure that you consult with a broad certified skin practitioner or a dermatologist who is considered an expert in the field. You want to work with someone who can guide you and not just sell you. Never forget that not every procedure is meant for everyone and it’s important to work with someone you trust to be honest with you.

Don’t ever feel obligated! Doctors/Professionals give consultations so that you can determine if Laser treatments are right for you. If you are feeling unsure, don’t sign on the doted line. That doesn’t mean that you won’t eventually make a different decision, but maybe you need more time. And that’s ok!

QUESTIONS TO ASK DURING YOUR CONSULTATION

    • What type of laser do you use?
    • This is the procedure I would like to do. Do you think it would work for me?
    • What is the success rate?
    • Is there any down time?
    • Multiple treatments?
    • What is the cost?
    • Is there anything I should avoid doing before and after procedure?
    • Can I see before and after pictures?
    • Can you show me the treatment room?
    • How often do you sanitize your equipment?
    • Will I be working with the same person every time?
    • Who performs the procedure/ treatments?
    • What are your office hours? (This is important! You want to make sure that the place you sign up to can accommodate your lifestyle and schedule.)
    • What happens if I don’t like my results?
    • Is financing available? (The truth is that laser treatments can be pricey. And you often need to have multiple treatments and/or touch ups. It’s good to know what your financial options are.)

Hope this helps guide you on your future laser journey!

It seems like everyone we talk to is having their brows microbladed. And all the latest trending videos on instagram are about microblading! But what is this craze all about? And is it something for you??

    What is Microblading?

Microblading is a type of tattoo. It is a cosmetic procedure that utilizes a microblading tool to fill in brows in a natural looking way. The tip of the tool is extremely fine and deposits pigment that emulate actual hair. The procedure is usually performed by a licensed aesthetician.

Considering Microblading? We are here for it! Here are some things you should know before you commit.

    DO YOUR RESEARCH

Don’t settle. And don’t just take your girl’s word for it, either. Make sure that you check out the person of interest’s social media accounts, websites AND portfolio. This should not be an impulse decision. Think about it. You are getting a tattoo on your face. You want to make sure that the person you work with has a style similar to what you like, has a proven reputation, is clean and is within your budget.

Don’t go blind! Make sure that you take the time to find inspirational pictures of eye brow styles and colors. So start Pinning! This will better help you and your aesthetician determine the best look for you and your face shape.

Always go for a consultation. Be open to compromise! Remember, you go to a professional so that they may guide you in a direction that is most flattering for you. Let them.

    SEMI-PERMANENT

Micro-blading is semi-permanent and once it’s done, cannot be covered up. In that same vein, because it is semi-perm, it will fade over time. Expect to go back for touch-ups. Ask your aesthetician for more info!

    PREP WORK

According to an article posted about Microblading in medicalnewstoday.com , we learn that there are certain things that you should avoid doing before your microblading appointment.

    • Avoid drinking any caffeine or alcohol the day before and the day of your procedure. It thins out the blood.
    • Don’t tint your brows before your appointment. It’s important that your aesthetician assess your natural brows.
    • No tanning or fake baking three days before your procedure.
    • Avoid facials, laser treatments or chemical peels two weeks before your appointment.

    WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER?

    • No long showers or swimming! It is expected that you try and avoid getting your brows wet while they are healing. The estimation is 7 to 10 days but the best person to get this advice from is your aesthetician.
    • Avoid makeup. Duh!
    • No heavy moisturizer or ointment.
    • Try and avoid direct sunlight and any kind of tanning for at least 4 weeks.

    COST

Unfortunately, there is no industry standard when it comes to pricing. Microblading can run you anywhere from $400-$1400. It all depends on the professional’s location and reputation.

With that being said, is Microblading right for you. Let us know and let’s keep the conversation going on FaceBook! We’d love to hear from you. Want more information? Follow the link below to read “All You Need To Know About Microblading” by Lana Barhum.
